Our Story

Founded in 2014 by Matthew MacNeil and John Oldendorf. The first locations were in Raleigh, expanding into Durham in 2016. We started as a small 15 barrel brewery setup with three thirty barrel fermenting tanks. Over the years we continually added to the initial setup with more tanks and equipment.

We expanded into Chapel Hill in 2024 and added another location in Raleigh in 2026. Also in 2026 we moved to a new brewery location in Cary, NC that supports production of over 10,000 barrels of beer per year. We continue to make our core beers, but have also begun producing beers for other breweries.

Clouds has been recognized as Raleigh’s best brewery by The News & Observer in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Our beers have won over 50 awards in various local, state and national events.
